Wine Region Tour (full day)

- Monumento Al Campesino: In the geographical centre of the island, the Monumento al Campesino emerges from the land, a sculpture formed by fifteen metres of water tanks - from old fishing boats - soldered together and painted white; a work carried out by Jesus Soto and Cesar Manrique.El Monumento al Campesino, or El Monumento a La Fecundidad, is found in a landscape of unequalled beauty, La Geria, where one can see a unique form of cultivation by which the farmer tries to retain a little of the rainwater that falls. La Casa Museo, an old restored country house, reproduces a rural architecture: central patio, aljibe, balconies, oven, wine press, ceramics workshop, hilados, crafts and carpentry - everything in an immaculate white. Apart from visiting the workshops and seeing the domestic objects that reflect the life of the old islanders, one can enjoy typical dishes in the restaurant beside the Casa Museo.
- Bodega El Grifo: is housed in ancient bodegas that date back to 1775 and were built on top of the solidified lava issued from the volcanic eruption of that century. A true example of local architecture, the cellar is marked by the simplicity of its constructing materials: extraordinary thick walls made of volcanic stones and plaster combined with ceilings supported by long wooden beams, mainly coming from ships derelicts. The exemplary ethnographic collection dating from late XIX and early XX century gives the visitor an opportunity to observe the evolution of wine making equipment : ancient presses, apparatuses, bottling tools, pumps and filters, laboratory instruments as well as old alembics used to distil aqua-vitae. The tour includes a look around the El Grifo Wine Museum finished with some wine tasting.
- Bodega Barreto: the Barreto family has over one hundred year's experience of producing wine and the bodega is still fronted by Angel Barreto Viera. The Bodega Barreto was started in 1950, when their harvest yielded a modest 200 litres but over the years the production has increased, with the Liquor de Moscatel and Liquor de Malvasia winning plaudits and prizes at Alhóndiga in 1996, 1997 and 1998. Their range of wines is offered under the brand name, El Campesino, and also includes a semi-sweet and a dry white Malvasia and a young red. The vast majority of the wines to come from Bodega Barreto are distributed locally and on the other islands in the Canarian archipelago.
- Bodega Status: the most recent arrival to the La Geria region is the Bodega Strtatus. Opened in 2007, the bodega has implemented the latest technologies to create a range of wines of distinction. After several years research at leading vineyards round the world, the director Alberto González Plasencia brought together the most cutting edge methodologies to combine with the traditional style of cultivation used in Lanzarote. The results speak for themselves, as several of the wines produced by Stratvs have already won prizes at prestigious wine societies, such as the Open Wine Assembly in Madrid. The bodega is open to the public, with guided tours available of the installations, wine tasting and a restaurant on site. The wines on offer include a dry Malvasia, a fruity red with flavours of mulberry and a sweet Moscatel.
The tour includes a guided tour around the Bodega Stratus Wine Museum finished with some wine tasting. - Bodega La Geria: this remains one of the most important vineyards on the island, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 litres. Six wines ranging from dry, semi-sweet and sweet Malvasia are produced under the La Geria label. The bodega is open every day and tours of the facilities can be arranged by prior appointment.
- Bodega Rubicon: the modern history of Bodegas Rubicón starts in 1979 when Don Germán López Figueras, a wine lover, acquires the country house of La Geria from the Fajardo family. The country house, built in the 17th century, included a noble home, service quarters, the winery, which covered most of the constructed area, and a land of vineyards stretching on three hectares. Don Germán acquired the property mainly for the winery as he wanted to devote himself to his great passion: wine making. For decades, the winery used the equipment of the old winery to make wine in a home-made way: wooden traditional presses of the early 20th century, ancient stone presses dug in the ground, and cement tanks to store the wine. As years passed, more hectares of vineyard were acquired, the old winery was restored and extended to where, today, the Rubicón wine is produced. Set in La Geria and surrounded by centenarian eucalyptuses, the winery stands solemnly overlooking the National Park of Timanfaya.
The tour includes wine tasting in the Bodega Rubicon. - El Chupadero: Our bodega and finca is situated within the unique cultural landscape of Lanzarote, known as La Geria national park, which is the main growing region of the famous Malvasia and Moscatel grape. The Tour ends at this Bodega 'El Chupadero' to let the magnificent views across the Fire Mountains do their magic, with some delicious tapas and local wine.
